Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG) is an eye disorder that builds up pressure in the eye and affects the nerves of the retina, causing pain and damaging vision. This variant of the disease occurs in the Norwegian Elkhound Grey and Black, and is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene ADAMTS10. A similar variant occurs in the Beagle.
Caratteristiche cliniche
La POAG nell'Elkhound norvegese viene solitamente diagnosticata nei cani di mezza età e anziani, quando iniziano a manifestare una compromissione della vista più significativa. I sintomi precoci possono includere la formazione di cataratta, disturbi della vista e aumento della pressione all'interno dell'occhio, che può essere misurato presso la clinica veterinaria.
